Great news! International students outside New Zealand are now able to apply for a Student Visa and start their studies at the University of Waikato onshore in New Zealand.
For more information on the Student Visa application process, please refer to the Immigration New Zealand website. However, if you prefer to study flexibly, a limited number of programmes are still available to start online.
Please note: Any student who starts online and intends to transfer to campus mid-trimester must be enrolled in a minimum of 45 points for that trimester.

On 28 January 2023, CSCSE adjusted the certification policy for overseas academic qualifications. From the first semester of 2023, except for special circumstances, CSCSE will no longer provide certification for academic qualifications obtained through online courses.
We understand that this sudden policy change may cause some concern and the University is doing all that it can to support all students who are impacted by this.
If you believe there is insufficient time to make the necessary visa, travel or accommodation arrangements in time for your Trimester start date, you may be able to study online temporarily while you go through these processes. However, this will only be possible with an exemption from the CSCSE office.

5 Postgraduate Certificates are available to start online in one of the following subject areas only: Accounting, Agribusiness, Digital Business, Economics, Finance, Human Resource Management, Information Technology, International Management, Leadership Communication, Management, Management and Sustainability, Marketing, Public Relations, Strategic Management, and Tourism and Hospitality Management.
6 Postgraduate Diplomas are available to start online in one of the following subject areas only: Accounting, Agribusiness, Digital Business, Economics, Education and Society, Education Leadership, Finance, Human Resource Management, International Management, Leadership Communication, Management, Management and Sustainability, Marketing, Public Relations, Psychology, Strategic Management, and Tourism and Hospitality Management.
7 Master of Engineering research papers will be available to start online. Coursework papers won’t be available to start online for C Trimester.
8 Master of Information Technology programme is available online if you are starting in the Postgraduate Certificate in Information Technology. Only the 240 points programme will be available to start online in C Trimester.

The programmes listed above can be commenced online but not all are available for completion online (unless otherwise stated). Also, the availability of papers in some programmes may be limited.
International students will be expected to transfer to face-to-face learning during the trimester. Transferring your studies to face-to-face classes in New Zealand will be subject to meeting Immigration New Zealand Student Visa requirements. When the time comes to join us in New Zealand you will be able to switch to face-to-face teaching at either our Hamilton or Tauranga campuses*.
It is important to remember that when you transfer to New Zealand you must be enrolled in full time study in order to be able to apply for an international student visa.
